Well, what can I say, now that we are right in the middle of the 2nd Annual Zihuatanejo Guitar Festival, except "Wow!"
An absolutely fabulous group of artists has descended upon Zihuatanejo like musical manna from heaven, coming, as it were, on the heels of the Easter holiday rush.
The opening concert at Carlos 'n' Charlie's in Ixtapa just blew us away - it gave everyone the chance to hear an excellent sampling of almost all of the musicians that will be playing throughout the week in venues all around Zihuatanejo, and a couple of the comments I heard were to these effects, "I just happened to come into town and hear about the Festival, and it's so astonishing that I'm going to tell all my friends so that they can come next year..." and "Sunday's concert was about the best value you can get - 6 hours of great music for only $10 dollars!"...
During this week of music there is a Gala Dinner concert in one of Zihua's fine restaurants every evening from 6 to 8 pm . These Gala events have limited seating and require advance booking and a cover charge of $250 pesos per person. After each dinner concert there are two other venues nightly in which different mixes of musicians play, with a cover charge of $50 pesos each venue, and the final concert at El Pueblito on Saturday night is surely going to be a total musical blast, and another steal-of-a-deal at only $100 pesos per person entry fee.
In addition, there are two RAFFLES going on, one for a beautiful concert guitar worth approximately $400 USD, and another for a collectors item guitar signed by all our visiting musicians this year - also fully functional and playable. Both guitars are hand-crafted by Paracho master guitar makers who are showing and selling their instruments and works of art at major concerts and venues during the week. Raffle tickets cost $100 pesos each and are available at the door of all venues. Participants in both raffles will have a great chance to win very high quality instruments and a wonderful souveniers of this week of music in paradise...
