December 2004
Seasons greetings!
We'd like to thank everyone who helped us and joined in on
our Thanksgiving feast at La Gaviota on November 25th. The
whole 120-or-130 of us successfully plowed through 6 cajun
deep-fried turkeys, 2 enormous pans of stuffing, panloads
of green bean, mixed bean and mixed green salads, mounds of
mashed potatoes and more than a couple of gallons of gravy,
not to mention the devilled eggs and other luscious appetizers,
a medley of cranberry sauces and a fabulous turnout of scrumptious,
homemade desserts...
We spent a wonderful weekend in the cool hills of Patzcuaro
to celebrate our friends Kat & Paul's wedding. It involved
some joyous gatherings and a lovely ceremony at Casa de los
Sueños and a promenade through Patzcuaro's Vasco de
Quiroga square amidst the celebrations of Mexico's Revolution
Day on November 20th. It also gave us the opportunity to just
sit an visit with a lot of friends, some of whom we hadn´t
seen in quite some time although many of them were from Zihua
- we usually just seem too be busy to see eachother when we´re
at home!
On November 15th there was a spectacular opening for our
new Blue Mamou Blues bar. I think the whole town was there
at one point or another. Since that blues-poppin' day, we've
had music provided by partners Jimi Mamou, Harmonica Hutch,
Jr Morrow and Steve Ehrmann as well as invited musicians Steve
Gannon, Phil Milner and Tony Vito. Recently-arrived house-band
member Jason Medeiros is now here to regale us and we hope
to soon enjoy a couple of days of music with J.L. Stiles and
Emiliano Juarez who accompanied us during our first Zihuatanejo
International Guitar Festival in April of this year. The musicians
line-up for early 2005 is full of tempting sounds. Jam sessions
are held every Wednesday night - they're great fun and not
to be missed. For musicians schedules and updates, please
check the Blue Mamou website often at http://www.bluemamou.com.
The Blue Mamou has been closing on Tuesday nights but we've
heard rumors that closing day may change in the near future,
so stay tuned or check the website for updates.

Other things in store for us this season:
Singer/songwriter Josie Kuhn is back in town at Rick's Bar
in downtown Zihua! She's just put out her new album titled
"Zihuatanejo", which of course has her fabulous
song of the same name on it and a number of other original
tunes with the true flavor of Mexico. Look for her and her
new CD at Rick's on Cuauhtemoc street...
Again, Zihuatanejo is going to be full of clowns from December
14 through 16for the 2nd Annual National Clown Festival at
the Centro Social and other areas of town, with contests,
special shows and parades...
Club Intrawest opens on December 15th, and offers promotional
rates valid through Christmas and New Years.
Sailfest 2005 is scheduled for February 2nd through 5th -
visit the website at http://www.zihuasailfest.com
or contact Rick at Rick's Bar in downtown Zihua. This is an
event that calls on volunteer participation and community
sponsorship, so if you've anything to offer, please let the
organizers know as soon as possible.
