Zihuatanejo, Mexico. December 2005
Happy holiday season to everyone!
The town has been busy gearing up for the 2005/2006 winter season. We've had a couple of months in which we've had unseasonably cool ocean water - and by that I mean instead of being bathtub temperature, it's actually been refreshing - but definitely still warm by anyone else's standards! Sailboats have begun making their way back into the bay to anchor off the rocks between Las Gatas and La Ropa or in front of the Municipal Beach.
The Blue Mamou Blues Bar re-opened at the beginning of November and has given us almost a full month of great singing by Juce Garcia. On the 12th a new guest artist, R.J. Mischo, will be arriving to regale us all with harp and voice, so remember to stop on by any evening except Sundays.
Many places did turkey feasts for Thanksgiving this year: Rick's Bar, Coconuts and Casa Bahia all had turkey on their menus, and our own turkey fry at La Gaviota on La Ropa made for a great - and filling - evening.
There's a fabulous Tequila Tasting evening scheduled on December 22nd, as of 7 p.m., at Zihuatanejo's El Pueblito Restaurant. El Pueblito is a unique and authetically Mexican dining spot located on Avenida Morelos No. 249 in downtown Zihua, Tel. 554-8414. The event is the first fundraiser for the 3rd Annual International Guitar Festival, scheduled for March 26 through April 2, 2006. A $250 ticket entitles you to five tastes of tequila from El Pueblito's incredible selection of over 100 varieties. Snacks will be served and there will be music and room for dancing, so stop by and help support our local music festival! Sign-up tables for volunteers and advertising sales will also be available at the fundraiser.
We need VOLUNTEERS for the The 3rd Annual Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival. We have received many, many submissions from musicians from all over the world for this third year of the festival. We'll need volunteers to sell ads and drum up sponsors, run miscellaneous errands, make phone calls and distribute publicity, starting RIGHT NOW, and there'll be plenty to do all the way through the actual Festival week and beyond. If you want to buy an AD (in the program, on T-shirts or posters), become an Active Volunteer or sponsor a musician, NOW is the time to let us know by sending us the appropriate form, properly filled out. All forms are available for download on the web site, www.zihuafest.info (see http://www.zihuafest.info/sponsors/ or http://www.zihuafest.info/forms/ for form downloads)
A second fundraiser - this time a Martini sampler and silent auction - is scheduled for January 14th at Rick's Bar on Cuauhtemoc Street in Zihua, so mark your calendars.
