January 2005

Happy New Year!

Phew!! Got through another one of those Christmas/New Year crowd scenes on the beach and around town! Actually, we escaped for a couple of days up to one of the quieter beaches north of here over Christmas, so avoided the clamor and busloads of people for a couple of days anyway. New Years was lovely overlooking the bay at Ms. Leonora's, followed by some year-end revelry at the Blue Mamou Blues Bar that was really rocking that night...

I don't know how many of you have had the chance to visit the relatively new restaurant called La Escollera, situated high on the hill at the far end of La Ropa beach. We've been there a couple of times and although we've only had cocktails and snacks rather than a full meal, the clincher in that place for us is definitely the views. From that vantage point the bay and the whole coconut grove that extends behind La Ropa look so different from views afforded from farther along towards Las Gatas or from the upper reaches of the hillside above La Madera. It's worth taking a look, particularly right at sunset - and don't forget your camera!

It's rumored that Casa Bahia, on the road to Puerto Mio, will be opening ANY DAY NOW and we'll soon be able to enjoy the recent renovations, great views from THAT side of the bay, and the fabulous food offered there...

Another new addition to the restaurant scene in town is located at the corner of Ejido and V. Guerrero, where El Comelon offers theme buffet meals on Mondays (Caribbean night), Tuesdays (Mediterranean night), Wednesdays (Oriental night), Fridays (Italian night) and Saturdays (Tex-Mex/Cajun night). All you can eat for $95 pesos, with good, home-cooked flavors. Thursdays and Sundays are closed.
