November 2004

Welcome back to Zihuatanejo and its new 2004/2005 season!

Well, things are really happening in this town of ours, and there are going to be lots of great activities and new places to explore in our community this year.

First of all, we'd like to announce that Another Day in Paradise magazine now is situated under it's own domain name at http://www.adip.info

The November edition of the magazine is now on-line in it's new format, as are the archives of the past 5 (!!) years of splendid issues. ADiP has a whole new print look this year and just keeps on getting better and better, so look for it around town. The November 2004 Issue 34 brings you articles on history, food, fishing, art, finance, real estate, shopping, travel and community events. We've even got horoscopes this year!

Changes in ADiP's on-line format are several:

The on-line edition will basically be a text version of the print edition. Most of the photos and illustrations associated with print articles will not be posted on the website. The print version will contain many additional photos to enhance the articles that will not be visible on-line.

Print ads are no longer reflected in the on-line version this year, and those who wish ads leading to their websites from the on-line version must purchase these separately. Prices for these are posted on the website.

Only major items will be posted in the on-line edition. Classified ads, the Real Estate guide, maps, phone numbers and resources directories will in general not appear on-line.

What's happening around town

There are a lot of very exciting special events in store for us this year, too, so please take note:

This past week or so we've been through the recent openings of several of Zihua's downtown restaurants and bars that were closed for the summer, including Rick's Bar (now with two bar seating areas to serve you - and remember his top-side restaurant upstairs), Coconuts Restaurant with more sparkling lights than ever illuminating the garden seating area, and Joey's La Marina, with his home-cooked specialities.

On 15 November a new Blues Bar is opening - The Blue Mamou - situated on the road to La Ropa Beach above La Madera, just before Kau-Kan Restaurant. It's the big blue place where the Posada Caracol used to be! You can't miss it! The Blue Mamou will be bringing the following musicians to what should be appreciative Zihuatanejo ears in November: Jr Morrow on his blues guitar, Steve Ehrmann, formerly of John Lee Hooker band and currently Roy Rogers band, and Jimi Mamou (who regaled us mightily during Guitar Fest 2004), along with other special guests. In January the BM is slated to start serving Blue Mamou BBQ, too, so watch for it! The tentative season calendar is posted on the website at http://www.bluemamou.com, so check it often for updates on musicians appearances.

The new Zihuatanejo on the Fly All-Release Fly Fishing "Sails and Tales" Sailfish Tournament will be held December 5 & 6, 2004. Rules allow fly fishing for billfish only, and release fishing only permitted; IGFA fly fishing rules. More info is available by contacting Baja on the Fly, Tel.. 800 919 2252. sailsandtales@bajafly.com

Zihuatanejo is going to be full of clowns from December 14 through 16,
as we celebrate 2nd Annual National Clown Festival at the Centro Social and other areas of town. There will be contests, special shows and parades... clowns everywhere!

Club Intrawest, the large, new complex overlooking La Ropa Beach which has been under construction during the past couple of years, will be having it's grand opening on December 15th, and offering promotional rates valid through Christmas and New Years. Units include Studios, 1-bedroom, 2-bath suites, 2-bedroom, 3-bath suites and 3-bedroom Penthouse suites for larger families.

Sailfest 2005 is scheduled for February 2nd through 5th - preparations are under way and greater information will soon be available on the Sailfest website at http://www.zihuasailfest.com, or by contacting Rick at Rick's Bar in downtown Zihua. This is an event that calls on volunteer participation and community sponsorship, so if you've anything to offer, please let the organizers know as soon as possible.

We've heard rumors the CARNAVAL is going to reinstated in Zihuatanejo this year!!! Official dates for Carnaval or Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) in 2005 are February 5, 6, 7, 8 (the 8th itself is Mardi Gras and the culmination of Carnaval). We'll have updates for you in the future as to whether or not this event will be a go, and which exact dates would correspond.

The 2nd Annual Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival is scheduled for April 3rd through 10th, 2005, with another week of great music in Paradise. Preparations are well under way and Guitar Fest organizers are putting out a general call for sponsors and volunteers. The event is totally sponsor-funded, so we're counting on your participation and help to make this event even better than last year's inaugural Festival that we all enjoyed so much, and that brought in significant resources to help the development of Zihuatanejo's newly-founded EMZ Music School.

The Guitar Fest website is now located at http://www.zihuafest.info, so please visit, take a look at last year's activities and musicians and concerts and photos, and visit the Applications Forms and Info Center page. There you'll find downloadable information for Sponsors and Advertisers as well as general information about the upcoming Festival. Those wishing to make donations, purchase advertising for the official program, T-Shirts or other promotional items, or sponsor a musician (travel, lodging, food, etc.), please fill out and submit the Sponsors and/or Advertisers form and contract.

Another item of note is the establishment of ProjectsZihua. ProjectsZihua is a non-profit volunteer group promoting community improvement projects in our community. Resources are used to influence improvements in education, environment, health & welfare, and community development. Current projects include the support and outfitting of a school in Colonia Vicente Guerrero, Zihuatanejo. Further information is available on the website at http://www.projectszihua.com.

And all this lined up already, at the beginning of the season... this place is hopping!

The directories have been growing tremendously, yet I know there are still a lot of resources out there that could benefit by being included. please SUBMIT YOUR URL. Your link will be reviewed and verified before appearing in the directory. Listing must be pertinent to the subject matter of each website, as specified below:

Zihua-Ixtapa.com: Resources dealing with travel, rentals, activities, businesses, information, etc. connected with Zihuatanejo, Ixtapa, Troncones or any other part of the State of Guerrero, Mexico

Surf-Mexico.com: Resources dealing with surfing, travel, rentals, other activities, businesses, information, etc. connected with Mexico in general. Submissions can be made by going to http://www.surf-mexico.com/dir, navigating to a pertinent category and clickong on "Suggest New Link" at the top of the page.

Both directories will ask you to register with a username and password.
Please keep track of these as they will permit you to return to the directory and update you listing at any time. Free and reciprocal links may appear in only one category at a time. Zihrena Systems reserves the right of acceptance of any link into the directory, as well as the final link placement and wording within the directory.

Thanksgiving is coming up soon - it'll be time for the turkeys!

Regards to all,

Carol & John
